Evening Primrose – Valuable Source of Gamma Linoleic Acid

Evening Primrose Oil is a valuable source of Gamma Linoleic Acid (GLA), an Omega-6 essential fatty acid. Essential fatty acids cannot be made by the body so must be obtained through the diet.

Many Americans are deficient in essential fatty acids, especially Omega-3 acids, which can contribute to a variety of health conditions. Evening Primrose seeds contain up to 25% essential fatty acids like linoleic acid (LA) and Gamma Linoleic Acid (GLA). Linoleic Acid may play a role in insulin usage in the body. It also impacts weight maintenance and heart health. Some of the greatest benefits of Evening Primrose Oil come from its GLA content. GLA appears to block the creation of compounds responsible for inflammation in the body. Because of this function researchers have looked Evening Primrose Oil’s use in treating rheumatoid arthritis.

One of Evening Primrose’s primary application is for breast tenderness associated with the monthly menstrual cycle (called cyclic mastalgia). Evening Primrose Oil may also be beneficial for other symptoms of PMS like mood swings and bloating.

Evening Primrose Oil may also help relieve the itching associated with eczema or dermatitis. More than 30 studies have shown positive benefits in using Evening Primrose Oil for this purpose. (Caution: overuse may cause oily skin. If this occurs reduce daily intake amount.)

Vitabase Evening Primrose Oil 1300 mg is 100% pure cold expeller pressed and is free from the dangerous chemical Hexane used by some manufacturers. Take one softgel two or three times daily with meals. GLA is an Omega 6 fatty acid. For maximum benefit consider adding Omega 3 fatty acids to your diet. Suggested Use: As a dietary supplement, adults take one (1) softgel capsule, two (2) or three (3) times daily with meals, or as directed by a health care professional. Store in a cool, dry place and away from direct light.
